BaTTERY THING

A tiny physical gauge for Bluetooth-enabled LiFe-PO4 batteries

Coming soon

There are more and more lithium batteries being installed in camper vans (and other places), many of them equipped with Bluetooth BMS (Battery Management Systems) and a smartphone app to let you see the status of your battery.

I didn't want to have to check my phone every time I need to see how charged the leisure battery in my camper is, I wanted a physical meter in the van that I can glance at - so I built this.

After sharing a photo of it on a VW group on Facebook, loads of people wanted one - so I'm working towards developing it further into a real product. If you're interested, please sign up below and I'll send you updates.

Will it work with my battery?

I'm working on expanding support at the moment, and without one of every battery to play with this is probably going to take some user testing.

My hope is to offer the first release at a discount in exchange for reports on what works and what doesn't, so I can quickly build up support.

There will be a web portal allowing users to upgrade the software on the device themselves, to get the latest battery support and new features.

    Support roadmap

    • JBD/Jiabaida BMS (Eco-worthy, many Fogstar models, Overkill Solar, Power Queen, Redodo, Many generic Amazon/AliExpress brands) - already supported
    • JK BMS - coming soon
    • Daly BMS - investigating feasibility
    • Victron - investigating feasibility
    • Renogy - investigating feasibility

    What is it?

It's a tiny 1.28 inch round touchscreen device, USB powered, that can be stuck anywhere convenient. You can rotate the display any way around so it can be mounted in any orientation. The screen can either be on all the time, or wake up when you touch it.

You set it up entirely on the device, no phone required. It connects to your battery via Bluetooth and displays your battery level and charging/usage data.

I'll get a demo video up soon.

And yes, the name will probably change. 😂
